DIRECTORS STATEMENT
In predominantly white spaces, black people will try to make themselves more digestible to a white audience. We let them hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see. But what happens when we grow tired of being overlooked? What lengths will we go to for our turn in the spotlight?

These questions begin an inner turmoil in Jocelyn Mouton, a young girl who hasn’t made it past prelims in Speech and Debate for the past 3 years. Despite the work she puts into her speeches — which often touch on her experiences with race — she can never seem to advance. Everyone seems better than her. And she’s pretty sure everyone believes it, too. Jocelyn has something to prove, but she doesn’t know how.

Having reached her limit, anxiety-riddled Jocelyn tries to take matters into her own hands, or in this case… her laptop. She’ll do whatever she can to make herself valuable — even if it means hurting those closest to her in the process.

TYRA WILLIAMS - WRITER / DIRECTOR

Tyra Williams is a filmmaker based in Austin, Texas who makes content that features POC and the LGBTQ+ community. She hopes to use her voice to create opportunities for people in marginalized communities to explore their artistic freedom.
